Another theme party! This was a black & white Michael Jackson themed 50th birthday party. So many ideas floating around in my head, but did not want to spend over $30. The whole bedazzled thing sounds awesome, but yeah, arts & crafts aren’t my thing. Not to mention I was certain everyone else would show up wearing “the glove”.
After looking at a few of MJ’s photos online the idea came to me. Quiet simple & using most items from my current wardrobe. The black fedora & tee-shirt were the only items new to my wardrobe. Oh, I was in need of a black fedora for the fall anyway, so this worked out lovely. You got me; more of a want! The weather presented the opportunity to wear an item part of my wardrobe since the end of summer, but never worn. The Charlotte Russe white faux leather peplum jacket was absolutely perfect for the fit. I had completely forgotten about that jacket. Geez!!!
The black & white called for a pop of red so I pulled out the the Viva-Glam Rihanna lipstick by MAC Cosmetics & Coca-Cola Red nail polish by OPI. Those who know me personally know I typically wear nude or pink colors; OPI only. That’s all slowly starting to change.

Had the opportunity to work with this wonderful, stay home mom who is now making the transition back into the work force as a Premier Designs Jewelry consultant. She had been out of the work world & now in need of wardrobe make over. Wearing seasonally appropriate attire was not important to this stay home mom until, “styledbyJReid” came along.
The plan of action, seasonally update this wonderful mom’s wardrobe while keeping it “her style”.

Using items from one’s current wardrobe is my main goal, but in this case a few new items were necessary. Shopping for new items while keeping the budget in mind called for a visit to a local consignment, Clothes Mentor, our first stop. There we scored a pair of wide legged black slacks, two cardigans (solid & multi-colored), a pair of Nine West black pumps & three tops for $30. (Items not photographed.) Some items still had the original tags while the others were barely worn. I was impressed as consignment shopping is not my thing. These items are part of the business casual side of her wardrobe for business meetings or corporate clients; appropriate for fall & other seasons.
Our next stop was the local Stein Mart where we scored one blouse, two sweater tops, a sweater vest, pair of zebra print black booties & brown casual booties. (Photos shown taken at the Stein Mart, but all items went home with this lovely lady.) A more comfortable, casual look to blend with her current clientele & for comfort while transporting her inventory was needed.
Can you guess her favorite color? Hmmm….red! Shown: denim from current wardrobe making 3 outfits. Denim shown un-cuffed and cuffed.

So October is the month for costume parties & theme parties. I’ve attended two thus far.
The first was a celebrity theme where each attendee had to come as their favorite celeb. Well, I have a few, but my number 1 is Mary J Blige.
Of course I look nothing like her, but did my thing using most items from my current wardrobe. Realizing all black as one of her outfitting trends & taking into account her new look with the thick framed black glasses, it came to me. Mary J Blige doesn’t sport much jewelry, rocks large hoop earrings, knee or higher length, healed boots & moderate on the make up; kept all that in mind. It was cool out, but wasn’t feeling the boots.
There were so many looks to choose from & such little time to execute. I waited until the last minute; how unsuccessful!
All items with the exception of the black skinny legged denim were from my current wardrobe.
Faux leather front sweater: Alloy Apparel (similar)
Skinny black denim: Target
Black Wedge Gianni Bini bootie: Dillard’s (no longer available)
Leopard print & black clutch: Dress Barn (no longer available)
Accessories from all over: Coach, Premier Designs, a local beauty supply store & old 3D movie theater glasses.
Many other celebrities showed up & showed out. The objective was to have fun & that we did.
Rainy Sunday church flow remixing pieces & wearing items that have been forgotten. Every now & again I dig through my closet only to find items that ended up in what I call “the closet abyss.” It’s funny how I always stand in front of the closet saying to myself, “oh my gosh, I have nothing to wear.” Imagine that! So not the case, however, I will admit at times I just get bored with what I have. Hence the reason I shop, but when shopping is not conducive then remixing is the avenue walked.
I came across several forgotten items, but only one chosen for this fit. The red blazer, dark jean, clutch & gold chain belt are the remixed pieces. I can proudly say that all items are from my current wardrobe with no exceptions. Go me!!! For those who know me personally, know I am always shopping & typically one item in every outfit is fairly new to my wardrobe.
I seem to have fallen in love with Viva Glam Rihanna lipstick from MAC Cosmetics, which has been part of my make-up inventory for some time now. Perfect for the fall or winter; can also be worn spring or summer.
Red BCX blazer: Macy’s

Gold chain belt: The Limited

Gold accessories were only right.
Another warm fall day where no sweater, light jacket or blazer necessary screamed, “perfect time for this bling afro tee.” With the season in mind, decided all black with multi-colored fall flats & a neon statement was the way to go. Rocking all items from my current wardrobe except the Luxe Statements neon necklace, new to my accessory inventory.
The t-shirt, flats & mainly the necklace received many compliments. What a statement it made; as intended!!

Missoni flats (old): Target
Silver belt: Nine West via Marshalls Department Store
Thursday’s business casual work fit took into consideration the warm fall weather we’re having in Atlanta, GA. No cover up needed! It’s fall, per the season, but it surely doesn’t feel like it.
Keeping the season in mind, I stayed away from the brighter colors. Decided on a deep purple Express blouse, New York and Company light grey capris, Jessica Simpson patent grey pumps from Macy’s with an extremely old satin sash in place of a belt. Where the sash was purchased, I have no clue; it was a gift. A smaller scarf or necktie works too.
All items from my current wardrobe.
Remember repeating your clothes is ok; that’s the reason they were purchased. Reuse, remix & wear again!
All items worn were purchased a while back, but similar are available. The Jessica Simpson patent pumps are still purchasable at Macy’s & are currently on sale.
Woke up yesterday morning feeling uber excited about the fall weather in Atlanta, GA; it was about 40 degrees until 2pm or so. Church in a few hours, but had no idea what to wear. Started putting a few fits together in my mind as I showered, but once I got to the closet, it hit me- the perfect fit using 2 items that I haven’t worn since last winter.
All items from current wardrobe. Queen Latifah handbag from Macy’s.
Decided on the black New York and Company ruffle button down, black boyfriend style Target blazer with the burgundy tuxedo Mark by Avon capris and patent black Jessica Simpson pumps from Macy’s. How fitting this was for the lovely fall weather! And how perfect it was with the gold belt from The Limited & lovely new hair color thanks to ZMahogany Hair Studio. The colors flowed flawlessly!
It is important to remember that our hair & make up are our best accessories. As women we know the type of day we’re going to have based on the condition of our hair. If our hair isn’t on point, there goes our day! The same way we are to keep our wardrobes current & up to date, we must keep our hair & make up the same. FYI- if you wear glasses as I do, update those too, as they are great accessories.
