A Neon Touch

Clearly I enjoy torturing myself on Sunday mornings before church.  Saturday nights I go bed without putting my clothes together knowing I have church in the morning.  Tisk, tisk, tisk!!  Some mornings I can put something together with ease, while others I stand in the closet dumbfounded. This was one of those Sundays.  I knew which shoes I wanted to wear, but with what, was the question.

Got it; only took about 20 minutes & I had to decide what my child was wearing.  Not to mention shower, get dressed, do my hair & apply my make-up.  Basically I am saying “it’s beneficial for me to choose my clothes the night before.”

All items from my current wardrobe, worn similarly some time last year with a different blazer & different shoes.  (last year’s outfit not featured on the blog, but on InstaGram under @styledbyjreid) Similar outfit posted on the blog October 1, 2014 with the shoes & a green blazer. The common denominator here is the black & white.

Wear the same base colors, but modify the look each time using various color splashes.  Black & white are simple base colors that any other color can be added to enhance them.  Black, white & pink. Black, white & neon.  Black, white & red.  Black, white & royal blue.  Black, white & yellow.  Black, white & turquoise. Black, white & purple.  I could go on, but you get the drift.

IMG_1472 Accessories can be used to add color too.

The color pop/contrast doesn’t always have to come from another article of clothing, nor does it have to be something of a solid color.  Think outside the box & have fun.

Pineapple & Camo!

FullSizeRender (17)How I love casual attire!  When it comes to casual Fridays on the job, I take full advantage of them.  Now that the heat is on it makes obeying the casual Friday dress code difficult for me, but I must.  Since sneakers & flip flops aren’t allowed I’m forced to wear shoes although I’d rather not.  Gotta do what I gotta do!!!

Pushed the envelope a bit with this fit as tee-shirts aren’t allowed either.  Typically I wear a blazer or sweater over any t-shirt I wear in an effort to obey the dress code. Not today, clearly! The GAP camouflage pants made an appearance on the blog before.  The sandals & t-shirt are new to the blog, added to my wardrobe earlier this spring.  Sandals purchased from Marshalls & the tee from Target.

Think of camo pants like a pair of blue jeans that can be worn with any print or color. They say “orange is the new black,” but I say, “camouflage is the new black.”                      FullSizeRender (18)

Pink Sunday!

I don’t get dressed for recognition, but getting it certainly does boost my confidence.  Blushing!!

It’s always the last minute outfits that are noticed the most.

IMG_1429Interesting enough, when I woke this Sunday I had no clue what to wear.  I knew Atlanta expecting a hot one & I didn’t want to wear pants.  I know, I know, no pants- shocking!  As I stood perusing through my closet, I came across yet another lost item, then another & another…& a sister & her brother! Image result for pink smiley face Slipped a Slick Rick in there!! The clutch has made several appearances.

“In My White Tee!”

FullSizeRender (10)A nice, hot Saturday calls for a crisp white tee & a hat.  There’s something about a white tee-shirt that is attractive me. It can be worn with nearly anything. It’s simple, yet it can be dressed up & accessorized.

The tee, jeans & shoes all together cost a few dollars less than $25.  Who doesn’t like a cheap fit? – I know I do! On H&M‘s website the tee is no longer available, but there’s still hope because I actually purchased it in store.  Check the store, you just may find it. Rock and Republic jeans purchased from Kohl’s for a whopping $3.50 about 3 years ago.  Talk about a steal!

The lovely navy straw hat has been in my accessory wardrobe for 2 years, purchased from Old Navy. I wear this hat pretty much every weekend; if not this one, trust me, it’s another straw hat. They are the perfect accessory to protect from the spring & summer heat, just because, or on a bad hair day.

Work, Church or Anywhere

Most outfits can be worn a variety of occasions.  Because it was purchased for work doesn’t make it exempt for church, a graduation, a business meeting or anywhere else for that mater. Now there will be some pieces of course that are inappropriate or not not meant to be worn to certain places. That’s where dressing the part is important.

FullSizeRender (5)This fit was worn as business casual attire to work, but it is equally suitable for church, a date, business meeting, graduation or a simple dinner.  The pants and the pumps are new to my wardrobe. FullSizeRender (9)

Yes, it’s spring, but I prefer a comfy pair of pants over a skirt. Not a huge fan of wearing skirts.  Don’t get me wrong, I like skirts & I do wear them, not often though.

I was on the hunt for a pair of brown, tan or nude pumps & I was able to find these at Target for a reasonable price.  One of the good things about the shoe is the fact that they are rubber on the bottom which is great for comfort & traction when walking on slippery surfaces.  Have you ever see women slip while walking in their shoes?  It’s due to the lack of traction. Shoes without rubber soles are more risky to walk in. Leather is my preference, but the for the price they were worth it until I am able to locate a pair of leather ones I just can’t leave without.
